Buzz Builds around HBO Projects in the Midwest

The HBO network is known for developing cutting edge programming. When it screens some of its most socially relevant films and documentaries in the Midwest, it turns to Valerie Denney Communications to build excitement around the event.

With actors Queen Latifah and Wendell Pierce, the 2007 film “Life Support” features big stars. More importantly, the film’s story examines a big problem: the HIV/AIDS crisis in African American communities. HBO’s “Addiction Project” is a multifaceted media campaign exploring a multifaceted problem: drug and alcohol addiction. VDC built buzz around the project and its message in Chicago and Detroit through mentions in stories, columns, blogs and interviews. “White Light Black Rain” is a documentary directed by Academy Award winner Steven Okazaki that gives voice to the survivors of the bombings at Hiroshima and Nagasaki. VDC helped connect HBO with the Chicago Council on Global Affairs to host a Chicago screening.
