Metropolitan Planning Council Brings Intelligent People Together for Intelligent Planning on Public Housing
In the ongoing conversation about what the Chicago area can and should be, the Metropolitan Planning Council (MPC) has helped shape policy on housing, education, transportation and land use in Chicago since 1934.
These days, one of the biggest challenges facing the Chicago area is a widespread shortage of affordable housing. For the past five years, Valerie Denney Communications has provided MPC with strategic marketing services to promote programs that expand affordable housing. VDC organized a major event where Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley urged local businesses to provide Employer-Assisted Housing, an incentive given to workers who purchase affordable housing near job sites. Direct marketing materials were also produced by VDC.
VDC also plans and publicizes MPC’s series of seminars on the Chicago Housing Authority’s Plan for Transformation. These Mixed-Income Forums and Developers’ Roundtables inform civic leaders about critical issues that will determine the outcome of the plan.
