The Heartland Alliance Mid-America Institute on Poverty

More than 12 million people in the state of Illinois are living in poverty. Every day working families struggle to make ends meet. Though eradicating poverty in Illinois is not a quick fix, the Heartland Alliance Mid-America Institute on Poverty (MAIP) focuses on long-term solutions to this plight by educating policymakers about its causes and its cures.
Since 2000, Valerie Denney Communications has publicized the organization’s annual Report on Illinois Poverty, the first and only comprehensive account of the state of poverty in Illinois.
